Nice to Florence

We awoke to a beautiful and sunny day in Nice. After hotel breakfast, we walked to charming "old Nice", and spent time in the open air market.  I found it absolutely enchanting and took way too many pictures.

Mixing alongside locals doing their morning shopping, we found piles of Mediterranean salt mixed with endless varieties of spices; pyramids of grapefruits, oranges, clementines, lemons; heaps of carrots and radishes crowned with leaves; mounds of tomatoes, artichokes, endives, and leeks;  cases of cheese, sausages; jams and candies, perfumes, oils, crystallized candied flowers; packages of spices and bricks of soaps; and rows of buckets overflowing with bright flowers. Rounding out the charming scene were a few street artists, painting pictures and creating caricatures. Ms. Heagy'a favorite, we found little "barquettes" of bright red strawberries, which we devoured immediately. The students enjoyed the giant cacti and orange trees, and picked up some last gifts from France.

Then, a long bus ride to Florence!

From the bus:

At least we had wifi on the bus! Halfway there we share our "highs" and "lows" of the trip, be sure to ask you student when they get home!

  1. You can feel that warm sunshine, smell the market produce and savor the colors from dreary and rainy New England. Thanks for sharing. What a trip!!
